My Summer Pick for Family Night or Poolside Munchin
I can picture it – you’re in your backyard inflatable pool and the only thing missing? Something yummy with no prep, no clean up, and cheesy all over – that’s Marco’s. The black-owned business on Roxboro St., Durham, is nestled behind Duke’s campus and minutes from downtown Durham. They are the absolute best because the staff are super friendly and attentive, make sure your order is exactly right, and they take such good care of you and every pizza that comes out of the oven! While some businesses have become a little sus in post-pandemic pressures – at Marco’s you can trust that they will deliver (in every sense of the word!).

There was so much tastiness on the menu we didn’t know what to choose! Dare we try the new Specialty Pizza Bowls in Deluxe, All Meat, and Garden, for those on low carb diets?
Here is what we loved from the Local Delights menu – special to this location:
- The Works – meatlovers + veggie combo – for added heat, throw some hot sauce on that!
- Chicken Florentino – an unexpected favorite – parmesan garlic sauce instead of a tomato sauce, layered with four cheeses, feta, fresh spinach, red onion and tomatoes, and tender grilled chicken. This seemed healthy, fresh, and light!
- Greek salad – a hearty portion of shredded lettuce, mountains of feta, and all the greek toppings we all love
Don’t forget that Marco’s signature cheese blend is fresh, never frozen, and its original sauce recipe was developed by the founder Pat Giammarco… you can truly taste the difference!
