If you have been following RDU Gems for a while, you have definitely heard us rave about our love for Tupelo Honey. If you are new here, then you are soon to be hooked on to Tupelo Honey just as much as we are! Here are the top 4 reasons that we classify Tupelo as the Best Southern Comfort Restaurant in the Triangle.
The Southern Atmosphere
Walking into the restaurant downtown Raleigh in the Village District transports me right into my grandparent’s kitchen. The smell of Fried Chicken, Biscuits, and Pancakes are all lingering in the air. Laughter is coming from the booths and the hostess greets you with the biggest smile. That southern atmosphere isn’t found in every restaurant but there is no doubt in our minds that Tupelo embodies every bit of the sweet southern hospitality that there is!
Tupelo’s Famous Banana Pudding
The Delicious Dishes
Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, you name it and Tupelo has it down pat! I have talked to people who swear by every meal that they offer. I personally believe that brunch should be an all-day occasion so the fact that I can have pancakes for dinner, is a selling point on its own! Or try the shoo-mercy chicken on french toast if you dare. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is sure to please your pallet and I have personally never been disappointed with my order. By the way, if I could recommend one thing that you can’t leave without ordering, it’s the Banana Pudding… trust me.

The Uniqueness of the Restaurant
Each restaurant has special features that stand out, but there’s something about Tupelo’s that just stands out. The restaurant has been serving delicious meals for 20 years in different states, but each location incorporates goods from local farms, breweries, and distilleries. No matter where you are, every location feels like a community when you walk through the doors. They pride themselves on providing clean and humanely grown goods and it shows in their dishes.
Can-do Attitude- Even Through COVID
Needless to say, we are slightly in love with everything about Tupelo Honey Cafe. They worked hard to not only serve customers during the COVID-19 lockdown, but also to look out for their own employees with a food service emergency fund. They have always had the happy, southern feel to all of their restaurants.
We were so excited to enjoy a celebratory dinner there, after hitting 10K on @RDUGems, and can’t wait until the next time we get to drop in and grab a bite to eat!
