Who else is getting ready for the summer?! Along with getting my steps in and trying to eat cleaner, I finally decided to dip my toe in the water with laser hair removal. When I started thinking about it and shared on my stories, I realized yall had SO many questions and had all been thinking about it, too! Here is what I learned.

This is totally new to me – but Blue Water Spa Raleigh has been the absolute best to work with – psst – they even gave you a code to get a discount on Laser Hair Removal, below. Their staff is so friendly, professional, and you can tell they genuinely love their work. Not to mention they make your spa experience an absolute treat with a concierge team that makes you feel safe, and at ease as they get all your questions answered.

The pain, the frequency, the location, and if it really works – all my questions revolved around those factors. I had zero idea how much it hurts or if it will work but after all the messages I got with questions, stories, and interest, I knew I had to investigate further. Blue Water Spa actually went live with us on IG and here is what I asked:

Me and Laura after the first treatment! Easy peasy.

  1. What is the professional expertise that you should look for when getting laser, and what makes BWS stand out for this treatment?
    • Blue Water Spa operates under a board certified plastic surgeon. We are owned and operated under Dr. Law and his supervision, and we have licensed professionals onsite.  We are also not a retail chain or franchise and take patient care very seriously.
    • At BWS, we have 2 lasers in every single treatment room. One laser frequency is best for dark or tanned skin, another best for lighter skin. Some people may have different skin tones, like darker areas in the underarms or genital areas. By ensuring that there is always the right laser frequency, every patient will have the safest and most effective treatment
  1. What makes BWS different from an at-home laser hair removal system?
    • You would be losing efficacy with an at home device, since you can buy them online and without supervision it can’t be that strong.  At a medical facility we can achieve transformative results  and ensure great results.
  1. What is the approximate cost for face areas? How many sessions are required?
  2. Is it common for men to get laser hair removal?
    • It is! I do see a lot of men for hair removal. A really great area for men to treat is the neck area also. It can help so much with ingrown hairs and razor burn. Another great thing men can do is just have a few treatments performed on their arms and hands for hair reduction, just to thin it out and have less hair overall but not be hairless.
  1. Are there any risks?
    • At Blue Water Spa, we have each patient do a medical clearance with one of our medical professionals prior to being treated with the lasers. We make sure to discuss things such as sun exposure pre and post laser treatments and photosensitive medications prior to being treated. We also have 2 different lasers for different skin tones. We can safely treat any skin tone this way!
  2. Some people have asked about the pain – Can you share what it’s like?
    • The great thing about our lasers are they have a cryogen cooling device that helps cool the skin with each laser pulse.  We also use a larger spot size, so more area can be covered, speeding up the treatments! Most people say that the laser pulse feels a bit like a rubber band snap, so very tolerable.
  3. “In general – How long does it last? Do you need to get touch ups periodically?
    • As with anything, some maintenance can be expected with laser hair removal. This really varies from person to person. As your body changes, so can your hair growth. Most people do not require touch-ups. The female face, which is actually one of the most commonly treated areas, is the area that most often would require follow up treatments due to hormonal changes.
  1. What is the recovery time? Should you put anything on the area that was treated like face lotion or oils after treatment?
    • Recovery time can vary a little bit, most people can expect redness in the treated area, this usually only lasts anywhere from a few hours to a day or two. This is because we are damaging the hair follicles, so it isn’t a bad thing. We will have aloe in the rooms that helps calm and soothe the skin. You can also apply hydrocortisone cream post laser to help with that irritation.
  2. How do you prepare for a session and what do you need to do after?
    • To prepare for sessions, all you have to do is shave! It’s wonderful. No growing out hair needed  like with waxing. You do want to be cautions with prolonged sun exposure before and after laser treatments, but the time length between appointments for body areas can be about 2 months. So if have a laser appointment at the beginning of summer, you won’t need to come back until the end.
