“Be the best version of yourself.” That has always been a main goal of mine. Whether it be my GPA, organization, the way I look, my Instagram feed, my relationship with God, I always wanted to be the best of the best at it. I was determined to get as close to perfect as I could and was constantly comparing myself to those who were better. Spoiler: You can’t be the best at everything. After many setbacks and learning experiences, I have begun understanding how to live life to the fullest potential in a *healthy way.
*Disclaimer: healthy is subjective… my version of health will be very different from your version… and that’s the point!
There is too much that I have learned (and that I’m still learning) to fit into one blog post so this is a little appetizer of what you can expect from our Health and Wellness content.
Mental Health
I am wrapping up my senior year of high school and have had my fair share of bumps in the road with my mental health. Life is hard and all you really have control over is yourself. It took me 18 years to come to terms with the fact that things are going to happen that are the complete opposite of what I had hoped. It’s okay to need a break from the crazy world, to lay in bed, binge-watch Netflix, and cry. Sometimes that’s the best medicine… trust me. Or maybe for you, it’s getting together with a friend and laughing it out. Mental health goes further than just dealing with the stress of life. Everyone’s journey is different and I can only speak from my experience. Throughout High School, my main battles have been anxiety and OCD, and it’s a continuous process to overcome these hurdles. Hopefully, I can give you a little insight into what has helped me.

Physical Health
The most common idea of health is someone’s physical health. It’s definitely a big part of being a “healthy” person, but it’s not all of it. As you can imagine, physical health is on my mind a little bit being a high school girl. I have been through times where I feel on top of the world and times where I have felt the complete opposite. Finding a comfortable relationship with food was hard. Finding out how to work out… and enjoy it… was hard. But more importantly, it’s possible. I promise. It’s all about balance and ultimately, everybody is different.
It’s Possible.
Emotional Health
Emotional and mental health are often grouped together, but there is a difference. Emotional health focuses on your mood, how you express how you feel, and your experiences. It goes beyond being a glass-half-full person; sometimes it changes from day to day like the weather (and if you have been to North Carolina you know the weather can also change in a matter of minutes). Emotional health is a little more ambiguous, but again, your experience is going to be different from everyone else’s.
Becoming an overall healthy person means being a happy person! You and only you have control over yourself. You don’t have to be the perfect person or even the perfect version of yourself. What’s most important is ultimately being happy with where you are. That’s health, and it’s subjective!
