In my 2020 reflections – I shared that before anything else changes with Covid or our lives as we know it – we should grab a journal and answer these two questions:

  1. What was core to my happiness in 2020? Yes, even during a pandemic.
  2. Where have there been opportunities and blessings that weren’t options prior to 2020?

The first question is beautiful because these are things I want you to take note of, and hold on to if you can. Perhaps it was treating yourself to fancy coffee or tea at home if you couldn’t go out, or press on nails if you never made it to a salon (and had no one to impress). Those are things you can keep up, even if things go back to “normal” or continue to spiral into more unknowns.

The second will help you rest in the little gifts that God gave you. There are so many memes, jokes, taunting judgments regarding everything 2020. I hope this question leads you to be grateful for the opportunities and blessings you had. I hope you’ll write them down so that when you recall 2020 to your kids in 20 years, you’ll be able to say “but it was also amazing because… “.

For me, since Blake and I went through some low lows (also high highs!) like losing his dad, losing a job, giving up on the dream wedding –  we just look back on it and see how getting through all of that during our engagement and the beginning of our marriage made us lean on each other, be more vulnerable, and grow stronger together, so much more quickly. We came out grateful.
